Was just wondering if any one has heard of putting acetone in your fuel tank. I had heard about it at work and looked it up they say to add 1-2 OZ to every ten gal. just not to sure if it works or not.
Don't know as I have never personally heard of that. I do know that these later high tech engines are particular about what you do with the fuel. I would ask the Ford Dealer about that before using it to ensure that you dont have warranty issues in the future.

Stay with a good quality, name brand diesel motor rated additive that adds the lubricity your fuel pump & injectors need and the cleajning agents as well. Acetone will only clean and I am sure is not a proven use item... why risk it????
I use Powerservice year round in every tank and have no problems. Others standyne and have no problems... but hey, give it a try (on your truck) and let us know... but I will never use it. I have enough "other issues" to worry about on my truck to skimp on using a "new wonder cure".
I have heard that using too much acetone can actually hurt your mileage. Although, I don't recommend using it. I say just use a good additive like Power Service or something similar

I have been curious as to what additives everyone is using. Also, where do you buy the additive that you use? Are truck stops (Pilot, T/A, etc.) a good place to find different brands? Does Shell make a good Fuel Additive?
I agree wuth beachbumcook, you can try on your truck, but thats a pretty big gamble. If you do have a fuel related problem and FoMo does a fuel sample and has it analized and find that you have added a non-recomended additive then you will be liable for repair costs, parts and labor. I would say to use a fuel additive that is recomended for diesels. I also use power sevice all year round, white bottle in the winter and silver bottle in the summer. It treats 300 gallons and it is available at walmart for 10.00. Others use the standadyne because it is accessable to them. They are both great additives. Let us know how you make out and good luck. Do your research and pay attention to how much you add. My buddy was using it on his Duramax and it ate the seals around the injectors and the seals where the fuel lines connect to the tank. For me I will go to walmart and use a product designed for the fuel. Its cheap insurance.
