Burning oil

My truck has about 27000 miles on it. It is an 04 6.0. Is any one having to at oil between oil changes? I have had to put it two quarts, but I am due for an oil change. Also my truck blows some white smoke on cold start ups, which I've been told is normal. Any ideas?

White smoke on cold start is normal in places where it gets pretty cold outside. Even though the glow plugs can stay on for up to 2 minutes they can't warm the fuel completely. If the air filter becomes restricted even if the filter minder isn't saying it is, it will cause excessive oil consumption through the Crankcase vent. And also depending where you filled it you may not have been on a level surface.
