Bob, I take offense at your allegation that my truck is junk, that I know it and deny it, and that I have some kind of need to install any aftermarket this etc... Go ahead and spout off whatever "opinion" you wish, but dont insult me about what you think is fueling my feelings and motives.
I wasn't going to post here until I felt the dagger of a personal attack. I am an honest man and state very clearly here that MY truck is a darned good truck. NOT A PIECE OF JUNK!. I have no reservations in MY purchase, and feel confident that Paul100 will be happy with his purchase as well.
If you had a bad experience, then you have the right to express that, I suppose, but don't accuse me of living with my head in the sand because my luck was better than yours.
If there is something someone here can offer to help you with your apparent problems, then you should ask for help. There are alot of people here that have alot of knowledge to share.
Paul, sort through the BS to find the truth. You'll know if you made a mistake if YOUR truck has problems. This can happen with any truck, car, train, plane, or skate board you buy.
Good Luck and I hope you find your truck to be a happy dream. Mine is, T

Wow, I figured I'd get some interesting responses. I really do feel good about the purchase even though I don't have the truck yet. I realize that most people that post on a forum like this one are trying to find solutions to issues they have be it personal, mechanical, or anything in between. My main motivation behind starting the thread was to hear some "happy" people after reading so many "negative" comments.
Bought mine just over a month ago. Still have the biggest grin. You're going to love it Paul100. Main thing is to stay on top of the scheduled maintenance and you'll be fine.
Enjoy your ride. You'll quickly forget about the Expy once you put a few miles on your new rig.
When I ordered my truck the dealer said it would be about 6 to 8 weeks. Well it took 6 months. So for the six months of waiting I read up on these boards. I was thinking the same thing. Did I make a mistake? No way! This new truck will just run circles around the old 97 f250 7.3 psd. Towing the horse trailer is just effortless. The break controller works so much better than the after market one I had on the old truck. And one more thing... It's AMERICAN MADE. What can be better than that?
I used to own a '03 6.0 crew cab Lariat fully loaded. It was absolutely the most comfortable truck I've ever driven. Everything just felt right. Pulled my travel trailer like it wasn't even there.
I've been told that FMC has improved steering response on newer 6.0's, which is good, because I didn't like how my '03 "wandered" down the highway.
Suggestions:
1) Unplug the EGR. ( Don't forget to plug it back in before you take truck in for regular maintenance.)
2) Follow guidelines for proper engine break-in period.
3) Would suggest quality diesel additive for each fill-up.
4) Buy new sunglasses. That way everyone will see just yer smile.
That's Okay Bob, life can get away from all of us at times. We all have bad days. Hope things are better for ya now.
Don't let it get to ya 'cause it's all small stuff.
Take care,T
Made the same sort of trade a while back. Traded a '98 Expy EB that I loved on an '03 F-350 6.0 PSD Dually. Needed the upgrade to pull a horse trailer more effectively.
No complaints. Despite all of the doom and gloom about the '03's, mine has been perfect.
Mileage with the Expy was 8-9 mpg. With the F-350, I'm getting 12-14 mpg, but that's with the trailer AND a 3500# Truck camper in the bed that the Expy never had to deal with... so I'm happy. We'll see what kind of mileage I really get when the Lance comes off in a couple of weeks.
I still miss the Expy, but the pickup is so much more versatile for what I need. Should have done it years ago.
I just realized I forgot to throw my $.02 in when I first posted. So here goes. Get a good dealer service center. Anything mechanical, made by humans, has the potential to break. Ford, Chevy, Dodge, my KRUPS coffee maker, it doesn't matter what it is. Ford gives you a warranty for these times. But if you get a bad service center, the experience can become a nightmare. My truck's had a couple of problems, that didn't bother me, it was the poor service I recieved from a dealership that did. I don't regret buying my truck, all in all, it's been a great truck. And the litmus test for me is, would I buy another one? Yes. Without a second thought!
We have 22K on our 04 with only one (1) problem which was fixed very quickly. Yes we have had several satisfaction recalls BUT I would rather have a company admit and fix potential problems rather than ignoring the problem. We have had seveal people ride with us who own other brand of diesels and they say how much POWER the truck has even though it weighed in at 7580 lbs empty.
Use the best diesel fuel you can find and keep using it. Quality fuel will pay you dividends with less problems.
Yes you will NOT like the truck you will love it.
