Headers
I Have a 2000 4.6L 4x4 and I have already put a Flowmaster 40 series on it and the K&N 77 series cold air intake on it. I wanted to run some JBA shorty Headers on it and I was wondering if anybody had any pros and cons to running these headers. thanks

well I don't have any experience with headers personally; but I have a mechanic friend that said anytime you put headers on a vehicle to go ahead and buy the best gaskets or you will have leaks. As for the headers the JBA shorty headers are just the ones I've been lookin' at. I can't afford them now but if you get them let me know how it goes.

I will let you know how it goes I am hopefully going to do it in the next month or two. Can you ask your mechanic friend which gasket is the Best. I like Fel Pro but if there is anything that tops that I would like to get it.

I know that leaks are common and as I have been talking to a lot of people the headers aren't really noticeable unless you are actually running your truck at High RPMS all the time. I mean lets face it I have a 4x4 its not like its a race car.

DONT DO IT!!!!
Dont waste your time or money on them, I did my 2001 supercrew and regret ever even bothering. THey made ABSOLUTLY no difference. It took me about 4 hrs to get them on and I am constantly having to retighten them, then I got tired of all that so I went to a reputable muffler shop and asked them to replace the gaskets, because the small exhaust leak that I had previously was only worse,they never helped. I bought the whole Gibson set up (JBA makes the shorty's for Gibson, or vice versa) and had almost no horse power gain with the headers. I put the exhauist on first and ran that for a month or two waiting the time to actaully tackle the headers. After spending nearly a whole afternoon doing it i have never been happy. The Gibson muffler recently broke in two so I got a 3 chamber flowmaster installed and I am even less happier. I would save my money or add a MAF to get some HP gains, Headers, in my experience, were not the way to go.

Thank you for the honesty. Thats exactly what I was looking for. I think that I am going to forget about them. I have the Flowmaster 40 series dual exhaust and the cold air intake I think that i am going to just stick with those and work on other mods to the truck like rims and tires. Thanks again.
