I want to buy an in-bed toolbox for my truck. I'll just keep repair tools and miscellaneous items in it.
I'm looking at Craftsman truck boxes that fit between the wheel well and tailgate, I could put one on each side. I'm also considering a cross-bed toolbox because I could put an air-compressor inside it instead of underneath my truck.
My sons TRX-90 quad would fit either way though I'm somewhat concerned about losing bed length with the short-box and cross-bed toolbox.
I'm interested to know how your in-bed boxes are working out for you, what brands are of good quality, and what you would do differently if you could/would buy another toolbox.
I have an aluminum box that is flush with the bed rails, width wise. Home depot Husky brand, or Contico, which is the manufacturer. The Contico is available in black.
Got a Home Depot cross bed - $249, on sale fir 229. OK, not the top of the line. Looked at the Sears first - ones on display were crap - burn holes where the brackets were welded in, brackets not straight, etc. Check the "CAN YOU SEE ME NOW" thread for pics.
Finding a thread - Click on "MEMBER LIST" at the top of any page. When list comes up put username in search on member box, click Go. When user name pops up, click on user name. When user name screen pops up, scroll down to "find all threads started by..." & click. This will pop up a list of threads started by any given user - scroll down to thread desired .........
Pics are also at the address in the cut and paste given ---
I did the search and the box looks good. Did you add the side lights? Where did you get them? How did you wire them up? Looks great at night. Thanks for the help for the search
That's one of my options. I like that style because I would still have the full length of the short-bed. I could even install one on each side and have plenty of storage room for tools, spare filters, etc.
The only reason I would want the cross bed box is that I could put my Oasis air-compressor inside of it instead of mounting it under the truck between the frame and body.
I have a between the rails box that I pulled out of my ranger. It is smaller than one for a fullsize, but I like it because I can still cram stuff between the box and the side of the bed, like a dirtbike wheel. It fits all the stuff I need, and is not overly bulky. It is also skinier front to back than a full size, thus giving me more bed space.

Thanks. Side lights are modified Harbor Fright Led reciever lights, and center light Bully receiver light. PM if you want instuctions & pics for mod. AustinS is right about the Weatherguard if you can spare the $$$. But most bang for the buck was the Home Depot box. Carries all my tools, extra jacks, etc & Honda 2kw gen.
