Where are the ID numbers on a small block ford. Need to know what motor I bought, was told 302, although edelbrock manifold states streetmaster 351W. ? Please advise.

I'd have to say that you've got a 351. The 351 manifold will only fit a 351, as it's wider than a 302.
The numbers won't help, except to tell you when the block was cast. But so that you know, they are right above the starter, if the engine is sitting right-side-up. You usually have to remove the starter to see them, and either crawl under there or use a mirror.
TigerDan, thanks for the info. I did find out one thing, a 351w manifold will go on a 302, there is a adaptor plate of some type that allows the switch. I'll take your adivise and say it is a 351W. I'm on my way at this time to get a oil pan gasket for it. I thought since it is not in the truck yet I'd replace that gasket. Maybe you could help me with this, The big bronco the engine came out of was 4x4, I do not need and did not want the transfer case, so I have the trans without a tailshaft cover. the tailshaft on the trans is short, the other trans I have are all much longer, can I get a tailshaft cover for this one or will i need to and can I replace the tailshaft on the trans?

I have to retract the statement about the adaptor, i misunderstood the article I read, it states the 351 requires a unique intake manifold. sounds like adaptor, right ha ha. Anyways your right it's a 351W. Thanks again
Actually, there were adapters available to go the other way, to put a 302 manifold on a 351W. Not much point to it now though, since there's so many good manifolds available for the 351W.
Is the tranny an auto or a stick? I'm no transmission expert, but I believe the 4X4 tranny tailshaft is unique and you will need to change it if you want to use that tranny in a 4X2. Definately if it's an auto.
The tranny is an automatic. The spline looks the same as the other ford trannys I have although the 4x4 is much shorter. From what you said it can be changed? I hope so I would like to keep the engine and trans together. Do you have any ideas as to the motor mounting up to my 68 F100? As I said it came out of a big Bronco. it needs engine mounts, and I'd like to purchase them just once, ha. Thanks again Dan
If you're not familier with automatics, it's better not to mess with it. It can be changed, but it means taking quite a bit of the tranny apart.
Transmissions to fit that engine are very easy to find, C4, C6, AOD, A4OD...it should be fairly easy to sell your 4X4 tranny, or maybe trade it.
As for the motor going in your F100, that's no problem. My '72 had a 390 originally, I swapped in a 351C which uses the same motor mounts and bellhousing bolt pattern as the 302/351W. I found a mid-'70s F100 in the wrecking yard which had a 302 originally and bought the motor mount perches from it, then swapped them into my truck. It was all pretty much a bolt-in swap.
