Ok so I've posted about 3 times on my 6" springs up front on my
78 F-250. Go HERE for pics. I got a new tube put on the driveshaft and I went to
mount it up and noticed that the pinion angle is very bad. The yoke
on the axle is parellel with the ground and the yoke on the transfer case
side is somewhat pointing towards the sky. I know that the back
being so much lower than the front probably has alot to do with this.
Anyway I just wanted to know if you guys had to shim the front end.
And my friend stumbled across a brand new 8" lift spring kit with u-bolts
bushings and urethane inserts. It's made for a 2000 F-250 I believe.
We're wondering if it'll fit my truck might try it this weekend. What would you guys sell a brand new 8" lift kit for? All four leafs and all that.
thats normal....i clearanced the yokes a little to get about 3-4 degrees more clearance, then put in some 3 degree shims as well. i have not had any binding issues since......with the stock setup like you have i broke a few joints due to binding....because as im sure you know....when under power moving foward the pinion twists down in the front.
Thanks guys I guess I'll have to buy some shims then...
so much money...gone
So I have this nice brand new drop pitman arm and I just need something so I can move the truck from my house to the barn right now cause I'm going to be doing a cross over steering set up from Shaker Built after I build up some more cash.
Anyway I have this drop arm but it's for a 2000 F-250 Super duty I think that hole is to large to fit on my steering shaft. But I couldn't get the old arm off to make sure last night. Anyone know for sure? I'm pretty sure it won't fit. Part number FD-500
My front springs are for a 2001 Superduty and they fit fine, you should be good to go with those 8" springs. I paid $250 for my pair, personally would expect to pay $500-$600 for a set of 4. What can I say . . . I'm cheap.
Too bad I just deleted all the pics out of my gallery from my lift. The Vato front end up in the air, rear end dragging is looking erily familiar. It's coming along nicely! Now run away before you get sucked into adding 2" of lift at a time until you're at 18".

That pitman arm will not fit, man. The 70's era truck you're working with has the same spline count and all, but it's tapered very slightly. I think in 80 or so (not sure about the year, my 95 was straight) they changed to a non-tapered sector shaft. You will get the arm on, but it won't be tight.

Ha ha. 18". Yep, been there, done that, didn't even get a t-shirt out of the deal. Except I did it 3" at a time until the last 6".
Gyger, you'll spend a TON of money by the time you're done and have it right. BTW, remember what I said ealier about caster!!

No what did you say about caster?
Yeah I'm used to dropping coin on vehicles...that are just hobby's. (mean while I drive a rusty 91 geo prizm o work everyday while the wife drive's the 05 3.5L Altima....
I've got a 2000 nitrous fed SVT(swap parts) Cougar that I've dumped about
5-7grand in over the past 3 years. Then there's the blaster I punched out
from a 200cc to 240+ with Trinity StageIII port n polished, head mods bla bla bla my wife just laughs at me anymore. I'm going 6" with 36's or 37's and that's it. Thanks for the info about the drop arm guys I ordered mine from Tim at Shaker this morning. VERY helpful guy had lots of good info for me and I'll be purchasing the rest of my X-over steering kit from his shop.
I think my buddy said he'd sell me the 8" Super Duty springs for $100 for all 4 never used with U-bolts and stuff. Sounds pretty good to me. But I just want the truck operational for winter I'll prob flip the rear shackle to get the back and front somewhat even and then next year put the 8 inches on it. I want a semi normal trail rig...for a full sized.
What brand are those springs? 8" is getting on the verge of banana land and can ride pretty bad. If they're a Skyjacker spring they'll be nice. Either way I'd get them for the $100 he wants just to have them around incase you want to try them later.
hey i used to have a 97 blaster i did the exact smae thing to....and the trinity pipe etc. that thing would move...i sold it before i got my license though
I don't see that he mentioned it, but I'm sure what he's referring to is that if you go crazy rotating your axle without rotating your "C's" it will mess up your caster. However, with your standard shim you shouldn't have to worry about it.
Wow, people with worse memories than me. I didn't think it possible. Cody posted a BIG long explanation in another thread where this was brought up about the ins and outs of caster, effects of too much or too little, etc.
