Alrighty.. finally ordered some custom springs and I didn't have all my ***** together. Being that my rear axle code is 'B4', I already know it's a limited slip Dana 60 with 4.10's. But now I need to know what is under the front end. To me, it looks like a Dana 44, but I'm not that good at being sure with axles that look so similar. I wiped off the crud from the data plate attached to the front axle, but doesn't that just tell you what gears and such are in it? If I'm wrong and you know how to decipher the tags, here it is:
4.09 D3TA-HA
60339-1
The 'point' in the 4.09, might be a perfectly symmetrical dent. :-) Thanks for any type of info that can help me tell what my front tires are attached to.

Wish I could tell you 44 or 60 by the code but I cant. I can tell you this much my truck has a 60 and they both use same springs. The 60 will be about an inch higher than a 44 with the same lift springs do to the bigger tube size. Hope this helps a little.

If it has 4 ribs (if I remember correctly) it is a Dana 60. The Dana 44 has less ribs than the Dana 60. If the hubs looks huge, and I mean HUGE, it's most likely a Dana 60. Or maybe you have a Dana 44 HD?

Look at the top ball joint if it is a 60 it will have 4 bolts holding a cap on and if it is a 44 it will have a normal ball joint the 60 lock out is bigger then a 44 and is tappered the 44hd is the same diameter acrossed
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-Jun-02 AT 11:34 PM (EST)]You've got a closed knuckle front axle on that 74 F250 right? I highly doubt it's got a Dana 60 front on it... those weren't even an option until the late 70's. I'd put my money on Dana 44 (regular tapered looking hubs with very small bolts holding the engagement mechanism on) or Dana 44HD (MONSTER hubs -Spicer- with big bolts holding them on), also, no ball joints on those axles.... trunion bearings instead. People despise the closed knuckle, but if you've got a real highboy it's what you get. Also, the 4.10 and 4.09 combination is the only one I've ever seen with the Dana 60 rear and 44 front from 1967 until early 77.
