I just hooked the power steering up on the highboy and I'm thinking I might have done something worng. I have power assist while turning right but not left. I need to know the proper hookup of all the hoses on this thing. I know there's a high pressure input from the power steering pump and a low pressure return line as well as 2 hoses going to the slave cylinder but I'm not sure of the proper sequence of these lines on the drag link control valve. I need some help here, any and all would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeremy
O.K. jeremy ,let me qualify my info----i'm working from a service manual for a 1977 f250 , 4x4 with a BENDIX control assembly----you may have a Garrison type----the Bendix is the later type of control valve----if you have an LMC catalogue(p.100--latest catalogue) they have pic's of each type so you can tell the difference , and it maybe that the hose hookup is the same on both control valves ----Looking at the two inside holes closest too the frame---the right front hole is for the right turn , the right rear hole is for left turn---now as too the outside holes---the left front hole is for return line(low pressure) to the ps pump , the left rear hole is the hi-pressure line coming FROM the ps pump-------As to the hookup on the slave cylinder---looking at the right front wheel---the right hole is for (I believe)the right turn , and left hole is for left turn----Hope this helps-----just to give you some background---I picked up a control valve off of ebay that supposedly been completely rebuilt---(I think it has) and i had the slave cylinder rebuilt also-----the control valve didn't work at first-----but after a couple of weeks it just started working correctly , but who knows for how long!!!!!!I will eventually do the conversion over too regular power steering , good luck!!!!!!!fd :-X11
I got it worked out
I ended up going to the local auto parts store and looking in a haynes manual. I had the low pressure return and the left turn hoses backwards. I swapped them two and it worked fine. Thanks for the help
