I recently purchased a 2005 Excursion PSD and have a question. I got it with the tow package and was wondering about the trailer brake controller. Does it have one? I was always thinking that anytime they have a 7 pin connector it was installed but have been told differently now. How can I tell or where is it so I can check on my own. Also when I got the truck there was a wire harness in a bag in the glovebox but it is not labeled so I am not sure what it is. The dealer is not helpfull at all.
With some controllers (like the Tekonsha Prodigy), you can get a harness with connectors on both ends that just plugs in; that way you don't need the factory harness.
What is a good one to get. I guess I was not informed on my last truck because the people at the RV shop said I was all set and all I had was a Chvey Avalanche 1500 4x4 and I doubt that had one built in. I drove with a 10,000lbs toy hauler lots of times. Anyway so what is a good one to get or what should I look for? Once I hook this unit up in front there is nothing else that needs to be done in the rear right? Everything will go through the factory 7 pin harness in the back once I plug in under the dash. Man I feel like I was cheated.
I highly recommend the Prodigy, and there are lots of folks on this Forum who will agree. You can find it at http://www.rjays.com/Tekonsha/prodigy-01.htm for $99.99, and $8.99 for the harness.
