TOWING
Hello This is Joe, and I am new to this site. I have a 2001 Ford EXCURSION V10 , I just got this truck and love the hell out of it. Any way I want to know if you guys think I can pull a 2 car trailer with this truck, Yea I know its gas But I can deal with it. And I would all so like to know what exhaust is best not looking for duels, And who makes the best Tuner for my truck. Thank you very much. Joe
Joe, I believe the specified towing capacity of your Ex is slightly under 10,000lbs. With the weight of 2 cars and the trailer I would guess it is either veery close to the limit or over it.
I wouldnt pull a dual car trailer without a DUALLY P/U, thats going to be a lot of tongue weight. Will it pull it, yes. will it pull it SAFELY probably not. For example, when I moved I towed 2 cars and a bunch of other stuff on a 40ft 5th wheel and my dads dually 350 v10 auto, from NH to AL. Pulled into a weigh station "just to know" total weight was 17,xxx lbs. Not a single issue, no sway, breaking problems, nothing, other than a flat tire... thankfully it was a dually, or it could have been messy. Sold the dually and trailer, got an Excursion v10. Moved back to NH from AL got a 20ft dual axle trailer and loaded that with 2 atvs and some garage stuff, total combined weight was 11,xxx. Lost a trailer tire this time, let me tell ya, it swung the back of that Ex like it was a toy, felt like we got hit in the rear quarter it swung that hard and fast. Thankfully we were able to save it from total disaster. Although I needed new shorts, someone to remove the seat from my butt, and to swallow my heart, there was no major damage.
Wow ok , Glad to hear that you are all ok. Yea just not sure what I am going to do just yet so I wanted to see what others had to say about. Thank you for the input . Say by the way do you know anything about TUNERS for my truck, There are some many of them out there I do not want to waste my money. Thanks again Joe
Ok cool I will look into that thanks , How in the heck do I upload a pic of my truck? Its got 10 inchs of lift and 36 1350 16.5 tires and a K&N cold air thats it so its time for exhaust and a tuner, Thanks again for the info Joe

LOL - that really did make me laugh out loud - almost hurt. Been there done that one - but towing a really big boat. It's a hard lesson learned but the moral is do NOT tow heavier than you are rated to safely tow.
Yes your truck can probably pull it but I believe the max tow weight is about 10k maybe even a bit less (don't quote me on that go look it up and know for sure) - so you will be pushing 15K or more - which means you are seriously pushing your luck. Something goes wrong like a tire or even some idiot pushing you over onto a shoulder, it could go really bad really fast and best case you are needing someone to clean your shorts out, worst case dead.

10" of lift? I would be pretty hesitant to tow heavy in a truck lifted that high.
As mentioned by minitrk. If something goes wrong... that 10" of lift is NOT going to be helpful in trying to keep things on the road til you can get stopped.
Yea very true , But I am a 25 year class A CDL driver so I know a little about it , But never with a truck this small. It sounds like its not a good idea to do this with this truck. O-well just have to see how things play out . It beats the hell of a $70000.00 rig, Thanks again you guys for the info keep it coming thanks Joe
OP - to you question on uploading photos. First note we use this statement as a general rule "Pics or it didn't happen" This forum loves photos, a visual bunch! Anything you ask for help on if you include photos you will get a much better response. Just some tips for future use once you've got the "mod my truck" virus that infects so many of us.
Pictures:
Go to the User Control panel and create an album under Pictures/Albums, once you create an album then click upload photos. Once they are uploaded click on any picture in your album and copy and paste the "BB" code line under it into any post or thread and this will show the photo within your posts.
Signature:
Also under user control panel you can upload a signature picture that shows at the bottom of your profile. Also list your trucks details (see mine below) this really helps other users when you ask a question because they can see right there what truck/engine/mods/mileage etc and you can avoid going back and forth with 3 or 4 posts to just clarify needed information.
Note:
If you become a "supporter" of site and pay the small subscribers fee then you can also attach photos directly to a post using a manage attachments tool and you don't have to do the album copy and paste method.
Joe,
Before you decide to tow some questions need to be answered. Are you towing an enclosed or open trailer? How much do the cars weigh? I tow a 30 foot enclosed trailer with 2 cars. But, the cars only weigh 1300 lbs each and the total weight of cars and trailer is under 8000 lbs. I also use a Equalizer hitch for WD and sway control.
Thanks again for all the help guys. It would be a open trailer weight HUMMM not sure no more then 5000 each. Just trying to make some side money. Thanks again Joe
