Hi.I'm kinda new to this so my question is this.I've got a 2000 excursion v10.is there a difference in lift kits for an excursion vs.a super duty pick up? I've been reading the springs are softer for the excursion. So could I get a lift for a super duty an install it on my ex?? I do tow a lot.
With a full spring suspension I would (in my opinion) have springs made for what you want. If I'm not mistaken you can go 3" on a EX without messing with a lot of expensive mods and extra parts or buying a $1,000+ lift. You'll need springs, u-bolts, shocks and a drop pitman arm and I think that's it. You'll use the original brake lines and keep a good pinion angle on both drive shafts so you won't be chewing up u-joints. That'll get you into 35" tire clearance. Also with a lift and larger tires you'll want to seriously consider a regear especially since you do a lot of towing. 4.88 would get you right in the ballpark.

Banshee rider..there's currently a 4 in installed. Previous owner.I run 35 in tires now with a little bit of rubbing at full turn.as for gears I believe there's the stock 3.73.ill definitely be doing a gear swap.just wondering if a stiffer super duty spring lift will fit? Don't want the sag I have now.heard the super duty springs are stiffer but also was reading it will sit higher??

Welcome to the forum Jake! This is the best place on the net to get info on modding an EX!
Excursions came from the factory with shorter and softer springs than their SuperDuty cousins, the Ex rides about 2" lower than a pickup. So a 4" lift kit for a SD will give about 6" on an EX. Or you could do the very popular V/B or X/B SD spring swap onto your EX. (search those out here, many good posts.) Here's one. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...p-by-step.html

Actually you can go as far as 4" on the front of an EX without needing to upgrade the pitman arm or track bar, I did it on my EX. My lift is 3 7/8" front and 4 1/2"+ rear using all ford parts (except for the U-bolts, had them made loacally). I swapped in in X/B codes from an '03 F-250, X codes are the snowplow prep heavy springs and I added an extra leaf to them, the rears are the SD units (same springs on F-250 & 350s with SRW) And I modded them as described in the post I linked to just above. With this amount of lift I'm now running 35.2" tires and only had a slight tire rub on the plastic wheelwell lines that I pulled back with a cable tie. With my new larger tires and my 4.88 gears ran through one of the online tire/gear calculators my new effective ratio is 4.39, a nice towing ratio that keeps the V-10 up into it's power range.

Right on. I was off by an inch.....story of my life! hahaha. I'm kind of shocked that there was any rub since mine sits stock and had a VERY minor wheel well rub with 33.8x11.2 (pretty sure that's the sae measurements) Another option to consider is a airbag helper if its towing issues and sagging while loaded. That will free up some $$$ for gears.
Thanks guys, I didn't know ex springs were shorter, I read they were softer.I don't get Much squatting, even when towing my daughters Chevy on the trailer. But there is some.
