I thought you guys might get a laugh out of this story. You would have thought that General Lee was chasing these Yanks' back into the North.

More like them Yanks didn't want to spend another second in the south... j/k
Since they were heading back from the Gulf Coast, why they hell were they going almost 100 mph? Thats ridiculous. I guess some of the cops around get used to traveling up and down the turnpike at 100mph, too bad they didn't get any citations.
I think anyone caught driving drunk shoud get a DWI, I don't care who you are.

22 NJ law enforcement vehicles travelling at that kind of speed with lights and sirens when there is no emergency is just plain wreckless. They put alot of lives at danger for no reason whatsoever. They deserved to be pulled over - each and everyone should have gotten a ticket.
Just because I'm a firefighter doesn't give me the right to take a fire truck and drive at a high rate of speed with lights and sirens going when no emergency exist.. it's just plain dumb and wreckless. The lights and sirens are there to protect us and other motorists when responding to a call. The lights also help gain attention at a scene, and that's it.

They do that here too. Ive been driving on the interstate and see an officer in my my mirror, by the time i get back down to 80mph, he is on my butt and flies past. No lights, no siren, nothing.
Its ok with me, as sometimes you can file in behind them and just keep pace. I mean, if he can't follow the speed limit, then it must be ok for me to follow suit.

PS I agree they shouldn't have been speeding. You're just as dead if you get run over by an emergency vehicle traveling at 100mph without an emergency to ge to. Can you imagine the liability payout there would be if an accident happened?

We have DC cops that drive in and out of Maryland all the time, speeding in their cruisers. One of them is an 'assistant chief'. (I KNOW the man!)
Just like the NJ 'Poh-leese' should realize - the DC cops need to realize that they are NOT in their jurisdiction and that their vehicles are NOT considered to be 'Emergency Vehicles' in another state/county/jurisdiction!!!
If I see this happening, (and they pull up behind me) I don't pull over. Why should I give the right-of-way to just another citizen (especially when I'm doing the speed limit, in traffic!)
Sorry. Rant off.

Look at and also think about what really happened down there regarding Katrina, and no, not the natural disaster (ie, hurricane Katrina itself) but in particular and especially the planned and the unnatural/abnormal disaster (ie, what happened after the hurricane left the area). I'd want to get as far away from that war zone as I could, and as fast as I could too. But driving 100mph is simply not acceptable. As for calling the volunteers that were there helping people *yanks*, that's also pretty uncool and I'll hold back on my deepest thoughts on this one. Remember, those people came down there to help and not to hurt. Last time I checked this was supposed to be the United States. Let's keep it like that. As a country, we'll somehow make it through this mess; history will repeat iteslf. Five year plan.

Some people can handle authority and some usually abuse it. Sadly enough a lot of police officers forget their job is to "Serve and protect". Here in Virginia, as in most places, we have our share of those that think they are above the law. I guess it has to do with the stress and frustration they face every day due to the totaly screwed up judicial system here in the "United States".
As far as the "Yanks" comment goes, a lot of us who grew up "down here" just don't like the know it all attitude of most of our northern brothers, and their attitude of "Every time I come down here youse guys act like you won the war". ( a truck driver actualy told me that one time) . The deputy should have escorted them to the state line ASAP!

Guys here is you one about out of state jurisdiction.
I had a Virginia Trooper light me on the WV Turnpike. I was running 85 mph and I guess I did not get out of his way fast enough. He then had the nerve to get out of his unmarked cruiser at the toll booth and attempt to chew me out.
I looked at him with amusement and asked him where he was from. When he told me, I then informed him that the city he mentioned was not in WEST Virginia and I suggested that he put his butt back into his cruiser before he was placed under citizen's arrest for wreckless driving and verbal assault. You should have seen the look on his face. The toll collector's was laughing their butt's off.
He did not know who he was harrassing. I travel the TP every day, I know most of the collector's and the troopers.
He left in a huff and a hurry. Several miles down the road, two blue and gold Interceptors had his white car stopped. I don't know if the toll collector's called him in or if he was travelling too fast in the 60 mph zone. Needless to say, I chuckled all the way to Charleston.
