Where are the gas caps at Wal-Mart? The only ones I have found at my local WM have been next to the gas cans and there were no locking ones there. The kids working there are clueless to where anything is so I'm on my own. I haven't had time to walk up and down the auto aisles looking real close lately so any direction is appreciated.
most of the stores i've gone to keep them behind the counter or hidden somewhere else. I guess they've been having problems with people walking off with em. your best bet would be to try a few auto stores and hope somebody has one in stock or on order.
The locking cap seems to encourage them to go to the next big truck.
But I do agree, better to hand over the cash in your wallet than risk some punk poking you with a rusty blade.
Perhaps the solution is replacing the filler cover with a locking "race" filler lid as a deterent.
But as already mention, it happend to a friend when he parked his near-empty tow vehicle at the boat ramp only to find it stalled when he backed his trailer down to the lake ... someone had holed his plastic fuel tank and got away with maybe five gallons ... and cost hundreds in towing, recovery, new tank ... : |
hey, heres a good reason to go buy a skid plate for the tank. either that or make one. its a little more difficult to poke a hole through 1/8" steel plate.....
I looked for one last night at Walmart. They were near in the aisle above the regular plastic gas cans, next to the non locking caps. However, they were out of the one for my truck. Guess I'll have to look again next week.
I'm not sure because I hadn't paid attention, but usually there will be a number stamped on either the key or the lock itself. If you can find two with the same number the lock should be keyed the same.
I'm the assistant principal of a 6th grade campus and in charge of all student discipline. I have one for reasons not related to fuel theft if you know what I mean.

I can't believe this didn't occur to me. I had a friend suffer a "prank" where a well-meaning jokester put something in his tank (sugar, I seem to recall) but he had a diesel and the fuel filter/water-separator didn't do it's job and something else failed instead ... like the fuel pump and pressure regulator ... costing him a brake-down and a lot of dollars.
