I never thought it would be so hard to find a locking gas cap for my 2004 F250. I have searched Google of course and this site too. I can find plenty for old vehicles but none for mine. Anyone buy one on-line or from the dealer?
I found one for my 04 Expy at Autozone for around $20. It really stinks that you now have to get a locking gas cap to make sure your $100 or so stays IN your tank. For the first time I wish Ford made a locking door. On a side note, I've started leaving my VW Golf TDI fuel door open in the hopes some guy takes some of that for his ride. That ought to screw them pretty well.
Which would you rather deal with.......$100 worth of missing diesel fuel, or $500 worth of body and paint work when they use a crow-bar to pop off your locking cap plus $100 worth of fuel that they steal anyway.
Another disturbing method for fuel theft that is on the increase, ....drilling a hole in the fuel tank itself. There is no way to absolutely protect yourself from fuel thieves.
Parking in a secure area such as a garage or fenced area, or a well lit area where you can observe your vehicle, is the best defense against these morons. That, or keep a mean Rottweiller tied to your bumper with a suitable length of chain at all times when parked.
on the other hand, most thefts are opportunistic. IF there a 50 vehicles around, and you have a locking gas cap.. they may move on to easier pickings.
yeah, thats the only reason i'm gettin one. i'm not worried about people stealing my diesel at home or work, just on my 1100 mile trip to visit some family.
I got mine from Strauss Discount Auto. stant brand $12.99 +tax, it fit perfectly.
I bought a factory ford cap , $35.00 after dealer discount of 25% , not cheap , works good, I was concerned about venting issues , didnt have the time to run all over, or take a chance the one I picked out would work right, so got it at ford , I believe its a stant cap anyway , I believe they make most of them, Craig.

Where are the gas caps at Wal-Mart? The only ones I have found at my local WM have been next to the gas cans and there were no locking ones there. The kids working there are clueless to where anything is so I'm on my own. I haven't had time to walk up and down the auto aisles looking real close lately so any direction is appreciated.
