Need input performance modules.

New here from Michigan,

I am all new to this, and looking for a programmer/chip/module for my truck (2005 HD F-250 6.0 Powerstroke 4x4 Auto)

1. Looking for best overall towing performance/gas mileage unit (as i tow a medium sized construction trailer). I have read on - the Bully Dog Triple Dog Power Pup, Banks 6 Gun, and the Edge Platinum Juice Attitude.

2. With a programming unit, if the truck is "re-flashed" would the unit have to be sent back to the manufacturer to be updated, or reprogrammed?

3. Would an aftermarket intake or exhaust system optimize the capabilities of everything, or is it not necessary?

4. Intercooler? Should it be suggested for my application?

Thanks in advance,
Mark

*EDIT a few shots of the HD-SD

I would go with an SCT. I believe the site sells a stock off the shelf version but if you want a bit more check with Mitch at Pure Diesel Performance.... Email me if you need his contact info.. To answer some of your questions. He will send you email updates, tunes are custom built so you can have him do whatever you wish, yes exhaust would help but you should also get some gauges to monitor the temps....

SCT

Thanks, i am assuming that you mean the Edge is "hotter" as in more performance that the others? And how did it affect his gas mileage?

What didnt you like about the superchip?

Also, Did you have an oppourtunity to check you gas mileage manually with the Bully dog? And do you have any aftermarket guages or any other "upgrades" to the truck to go along with the Bully Dog Programmer?

And lastly, Does anyone have ANY feedback on the banks 6 gun?

Thanks again,

Mark

I belive when he said "runs hotter" he ment that temp. wise. (higher EGTS..)

I've used the Superchips before and liked it alot. Its simple, no custom tunes available or anything like that. Just what it comes with (not a bad thing) It's good if you dont want to mod your truck too much and if you don't care about cutom tunning and other things like that.

The only thing from Banks I would buy is there exhaust. I've heard horror stories about Banks melting motors, and denined warranty claims....

Diablo, or Superchips with a full set of gauges would be my choice.

i run the edge juice with a full set of gauges and i love it, plenty of power and it gets 20 mpg freeway, not to good around town because the pedal is always to the floor. My highest EGTs where about 1350 but i have 4 inch exhaust through it. The platinum series juice is supposed to be a lot better, it comes with a turbo timer and all kinds of neat gadgets. I also know a guy who just blew his motor with a superchip.

I ran a SCMT 1704 on my 03 6.0, and never had a single issue with it. I pulled it out of the truck at 60,000 miles when I traded it in on my 05. Have run it on my 05 for about 3000 miles so far, and no issues. While I know better, and don't really have an excuse other than no extra cash right now, I have never run any gauges other than what comes with the truck. I never towed anything in other than the tow/safe mode. That may be a good thing that I did not know what my ET was, so I never towed anything in the econo, or performance mode. Again I never had one single issue that many others have mentioned IE coolant puking ect. Then again I never really pushed my truck towing using it either (IE 70-80 MPH towing 11,000 T.T.) I get the best milage towing @ 65mph on the pedal, in tow/haul.

I bought a Bully Dog Monitor and Pup..To their dismay; I have not installed the pup (haven't found the need for it yet) Monitor is connected and I watch 2 EGT's, Boost, & Volts. Someday the Pup may go in. I get 20 mpg empty on the road, 12 towing #7000 car trailer, and 15/16 in town. Climbs and pulls great the way it is. I let the others race theirs. My race car is in the trailer. 04 Red King Ranch, CC, 2WD, SB...Good Luck

I was running an edge for about 6 months and just yesterday pulled it off my truck and installed the SCMT 1704a tuner. I always like the edge...truck was amzingly quick, mileage was good and temps were ok. However, the shifting was horrible. I took my truck for a spin yesterday, and I must say I was slightly disappointed. The shifting was absolutely perfect, but it didnt have the same zip. Now, I have only run in the economy mode so far so I cant really say if performance mode is much better. I do love the shifting and I will definitely be keeping the SCMT.

05Harleysd4x4,

Hold out for a few days till the new Platinum is out, I have been Beta testing one and it is the top of the heap. Full trans controls, full gauges package (that you need with any HP mod) and a turbo timer to boot. Easy install and less visible to the Cops at the Ford store too!!! It'll cost you a bit more, but by the time you got a programmer, added gauges, and a turbo timer it's actually less money overall. Our first orders are due in Wed or Thru this week, call us if you have any questions etc.
