2 Questions

Just got my first F150 - a used 2004 XLT 4.6. Hurricane Katrina storm surge took out house and my old reliable Ford Ranger - totally unexpected since I live 20 feet plus above sea level and a good 1/4 mile from a small bayou. Anyway, my first question concerns removal of the rear seat back. I saw back in 2004 there were postings on the removal procedures, but the links are long gone. If anyone still has that procedure I would sure would like to have it.

My second question is, can anyone tell me where to find the horn relay? When I bought the truck the horn didn't work so I replaced blown fuse and now can hear relay clicking, but even after dropping the glove box, I can't pinpoint the location. Owner manual doesn't even give a clue. Would appreciate any help.

Mobguy1969, First off...sorry about your loss. I hope that your life gets back to normal soon.

2nd...I can help you dig up the links. I'll edit this post with them if I find 'em.

3rd...If the relay is clicking then it must be working. Maybe it is the horn itself that is FUBAR. Have you tried to pull the horn and "hotwire" it to a 12V source to see if it works?

And last but not least...WELCOME TO FTE!!

Thanks for the quick reply and kind words. While we lost material things we discovered a strength in ourselves that can't be taken away and we are survivors. My email is addie6919 (at) yahoo (dot) com. Many thanks for the help. I had checked the connection at the horns, but didn't think about pulling and hot wiring, that will be done this evening. Thanks for the assistance.

Just because a relay is clicking, does't mean it's working. The contacts could be pitted, and not making a connection.

Good Luck and God Bless

Monsta and Bobby,

Thanks for the inputs. I got the .pdf - FOMOCO certainly made that job difficult enough. I started going down the line with the horn troubleshooting. First it was replaced blown fuse, next heard relay noise, so I was headed toward R&R relay. Anyway I checked the connections at the horns (2) and found 12V. So I removed the horns and hot wired them to the battery. Neither worked - now I find that odd. I'm going to remove horns from Mom's Crown Vic that went under water, test those, and if they work, hook them to my F150 harness and try again. I too love a challenge, just lately there's been just one too many. I have learned alot about what to after a flood - I never want to use that knowledge again . Thanks again. If I can get this done today, I'll post the results.

Yes, you are exactly right. My bad in saying "that is MUST be working".

It seems the relay IS working. I took the horn assembly off the Crown Vic, checked that they still worked (they were under water for a time), temporarily hooked them to the truck harness, and they worked. It's hard to believe that two independent horns would be bad - that's why I hate buying used vehicles. Now my only consideration is to use them and modify the connections or go to salvage yard. Thanks again for the help, it's been people like you around the nation that has really stepped up to help the LA and MS Gulf Coast areas. But you know, I sure would still like to know where that horn relay is located. Me and a coworker searched that entire passenger side fuse and kickpanel area, including behind glove box and couldn't locate the source of the clicking horn relay. Thanks again.
