I just finished up the rebuild of a D44 closed knuckle front end and noticed that when I lock the hubs, they bind with just little turning of the steering. They are binding up well before the steering stops that are mounted to the housing.
With the hubs in 'free' it seems to turn all the way with no problem, but 'locked' binds up at about 1/2~2/3 the way.
Is this normal?
Are the steering stops supposed to be adjusted for 4wd locked or open?
If I turn past the binding point, wouldn't that break the ujoint or something?
The strange thing about this is that the turning angle on this thing sucks already, it must REALLY suck in 4wd locked.
hmm thats a new one! I know the closed models have a poorer turning radius and they arent soposed to go past 45 degrees but never heard of one binding like that. I wonder if they are the right lockouts? most of the ones I have messed with donot have lockout hubs on them. good question karljay I hope someone has a answer for ya! good luck
