ECS Location??

ECS Location??
Can anyone tell me the exact location of the ECS (Electronic Crash Sensor) on a '00 Excursion??
Mine has gone bad and since it's out of warranty I'm thinking of just replacing it myself, but the service manual doesn't say exactly where it's located. My local dealer service dept would only tell me it's "around the tranny tunnel" but wouldn't provide any more detail than that.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

It's in my shop manuals, but the location isn't very clear.....that's where I was hoping someone knew first hand.
It's also referenced as a Restraint Control Module since the design changed after 10/00, but mine is a 7/00 build date.

On a 2001 superduty pickup the airbag controller is on top of the transmission hump right below the dash. If i recall, its all one unit- the only other parts are the 2 airbag units and the pass. side shutoff switch, which your ex probably does not have.
You probably know it already, but be sure to disconnect the battery before you mess around w/ it. Saw some jokers on TV launch a plastic barrel about 50' in the air with an old airbag! I think it was on Mythbusters...

One more question on replacing the ECS.
Can it be replaced without doing an sort of programming or calibration to the main computer? Just wanna make sure I can connect it up w/o having to go into the scan tool and configure it.
