make sure your trucks really warmed up when you pull up. Warm cats work better than cool ones.

Try to pull any codes and work on any smog related issues..

You also may have a vacuum leak, a cat that needs replacement, a stuck open thermostat, or maybe just an oil change. It depends on how much you failed by.

The probable causes of high hydrocarbon (HC) in your vehicle are listed as follows:
Electrical Misfire
Too Much spark advance (or initial timing)
Air-fuel mixture too lean
Vacuum leak
Leaking exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve
Malfunctioning closed-loop fuel metering system
Engine wear

Cool Thanks,
I changed the oil and airfilter tonight and dumped in several bottles of gas line antifreeze. I checked not to long ago for vacume leaks. I hope this will bring it down.

Ya did good then. When I've had vehicles that just wouldn't pass I'd:
1) change air filter
2) run tank down to ¼ or less & add 2 btls. "Heet"
3) run the vehicle for at least 40 min. before taking it for testing. (if I had to wait long to test I'd make sure I kept it idling and the cat. hot).

Once you pass.. go top off the tank.

Wish you the best.
Respectfully,
Automatic
