RAC Rite Autotronics, still around?

Looking for a timing light in pawn shops, I came across a tuneup kit with tach/dwell/etc. meter, timing light, vacuum and compression testers. USA made, somewhat cheap construction, but good quality overall. Had the original case, even all the manuals and warranty card. Seems to have been made mid-70's, as 1975 is the newest car listing for settings. Picked it up for 60 bucks.

Everything works, the only item missing is the spark plug adapter for the timing light. I got it working by using a 22k ohm resistor to tap into the spark plug wire. Anybody know if the original adapter had a resistor inside or just hooked the light straight onto the plug wire?

Is this company still in business? Anyone here own and use any of the equipment from this company? Seems they may still make tachometers for the dash, but I don't see many web references and they apparently don't have a website.

Thanks for sharing any info!

They were big in the consumer type meters and equipment back in the old days. They worked fine, just not as HD as the Sun or professional equipment. I never used any of their timing lights.

Thanks Eric. I bumped into a friend who told me the timing light adapter is often just a spring that snugs onto plug and boot connections, then you just clip the light onto the spring. Turns out there is a bent-up spring knocking around in the bottom of the case, but the manuals illustrated a fancier plug-in kind of adapter. I just wondered about sending spark voltage directly into the light.
