Question 03' Expedition Brake Pad replacement

I am wanting to replace the brake pads on my 03' expedition, but I am not familiar with the clip of the outside of the front calipers. I have had no luck finding a repair manual. What is the process to remove the caliper after removing the two 7mm bolts holding the caliper on?

Tap it off the rotor with a hammer.

The "clip" is an anti-rattle spring which, BTW, is a real PITA to get back on. grrrr...

Some thing to think about. I replaced my stock pads with ceramic ones. The front wheels stay nice and clean now. Use a soft hammer though.

Thumbs up Ceramic pads are great!

I didn’t need a hammer to take off the clip; I used a screwdriver to lift it off. Make sure you have the correct size torx or allen to get the caliper off, I used an allen wrench. Replacing pads is easier than you think; wish I had done mine long ago. It takes longer to jack up the truck and pull the tiers off.

I also recommend the ceramic pads. I have had mine on for three weeks and front wheels are still clean, they used to get dirty in two days. Now the backs get dirtier than the fronts. I can’t say enough about them. They are great pads.

good luck

The hammer is for tapping the caliper off the disc.

I replaced mine with ceramics, too. What a great upgrade!

Hammer is for the calipers……got it. Sorry for the confusion.

I don’t mean to hijack the post but are ceramics available for the rears?

Torx/Allen Wrench....

...no longer needed on the 2003 Expedition. I searched all over my garage for my T-35 in preparation to do my 2003 and after finally giving up and buying a new one I proceeded to take the front wheels off. Nothing worse than taking apart your ride to the parts house then finding out you need something.

I still have that T-35 brand new on the original card....

My brake pads are due (~30K miles) for replacement. Do I need to replace the rotors also to get rid of that brake dust? Does the dealer uses the ceramics pad to replace the old ones?

Geolink3rd, I also have a 03 and used an allen wrench. How did you remove calipers?

Do I need to replace the rotors also to get rid of that brake dust?

Erndog, I did not turn or replace my rotors, they were in very good shape. I don't know what kind of pads the dealer uses.
