My air compressor is getting noisy again. Runs for 30-45 seconds after puttind the truck in gear. People ask "what's that funny noise." It did this in summer of 2004 and the dealership only made the problem worse. I took it to a different dealer that replaced it perfectly, and although you could still hear it, it was really quite.
New vehicle warranty has now expired so I would prefer to replace it on my own if it worsens. Will call the dealer first to see if that replacement part is still under warranty.
Questions: Where can I get a pump for a reasonable price? How tough a job is this--can I do it myself and if so can someone share how? I have access to tools and a lift--Military Auto Skills Center.
Somebody here posted about improved bracket, part #4L1Z5Z205AA, which apparently solved the noise. Your 02 compressor may still be good, I would wait until it quits before replacing. Also, the LLS union/connector around the area of master brake cylinder is apparently notorious for leak, you may want to replace that - check out my post with picture of the old and the new connector a few days back. You may want to help a fellow XP-LLS owner and score my connector
If you should decide to replace your compressor and drier, somebody here said that you don't have to cut the hose, the orange ring is the tool to remove it - ask Strutmasters guys about it.
