Disc brake upgrade couple years past. Last couple days front passenger side pads have been dragging. Intend to pull all the wheels this a.m. and take a look. Will replace pads while i am at it, but has been some time since i have done it. Do not have access to my shop manuals. If recall, there is a bolt that needs to be removed in order to remove the keeper. Once keeper is removed can i take out the pads, or is there another step that i have to take. Probably will figure out once i get into to it but thought another member may same me a step or two. The front end is out of a 76 truck. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
There's a bolt that centers the slide that has to be removed. It has a spring bar between it and the caliper. You have to drive these 2 pieces out, then remove the caliper. Then remove the pads. Don't forget to lube the slides and where the caliper touches the bracket on top. Use the c-xlamp to push the caliper piston back in.
Thanx Barry, input really helpful. Also found that if you insert pads in respective seats before installing caliper it goes much easier. About 40 min. on first, and 15 min on second. Found did not need replacing but went ahead anyway. The problem was in 1 of the rear drums where the adjusting mechanism came loose and tore everything up. Local NAPA parts store carries replacement parts and ordered drums and all associated parts for both rears. Can't believe that much damage in such short period of time. Anyhooo should have back on road tomorrow.
