Well, I have ask some silly questions before, I just though I would add to the list! I had removed some of the switches on the panel in the cab today, including the speedometer, all but the head light switch. The plastic **** did not want to pull lose and I did not want to screw up the bezzel, till I ask for some advice. Is there an easy, or right way to remove the switch from the panel in the cab? The truck is a 52, F-1. Thanks, Monte
Can't wait to see an answer on this one, I had so much trouble getting mine off that I loosened the bezel, wrapped it in plastic and tape, and painted the interior of the cab with it still in the dash!!! I guess I won't need to take it out until it goes bad....haha
Thanks!, Ha! I have found that if you ask at this post, someone will know and I have screw enough things up in my life that I have found that patience is a virtue, rushing things and screwing it up can be time consuming and costly.
No clue on the old trucks, but in the early 70s (ford and chevy) you had to reach under the dash and push a little pin, then pull the **** and rod out. Any chance ford used that design that far back?
I just got my hands on a 49+ model light switch. It does indeed have a push pin/screw that must be pushed in order to release the **** and shaft. Don't know if that is the same for the 52 or not, but hope it helps.
The pin is a held out by a spring between the head and the housing. It is on the opposite side of the terminals on mine.
Procedure is outlined in the shop manual for both switches - and can be purchased easily here at motorhaven. hint Also a great way to support FTE so everybody wins.
Did you get it out? I had the same problem I might be able to get a picture of it apart if you need it. It was a bear to figure out the first time after the it was easy.
That's who my 54 light switch worked. Push the spring-loaded pin in the back and rod would slide out. To reinstall, just push the shaft back in until it clicked into place. Good luck, Jag
Just don't do what I have done more than once...if the shaft doesn't want to seat when pushing back in, DONT use a hammer, since it just pushes the shaft, breaking out back end of the light switch! No more switch!
The 52 switch is supposed to be the same as the 53, and the 53 switch uses the push button on the back to release the ****. Now, if you can't it loose just pulling it out, then try twisting it while you pull it, some times a little burr develops, and you need to turn the know to a different spot to get it to release. Also, make sure the battery is disconnected, since it sounds like your truck is disassembled, this should not apply. If the battery is still hooked up, the removal of the shaft and ****, WILL turn on the lights, and you can't turn them off until you push the shaft and **** back into place.
