Dash light color

Were the original colors of the instrument cluster lights green or blue? I know there are blue-ish "caps" within the cluster panel. Are these supposed to make the lights look blue or green. Im asking because I want to switch over to LEDs and remove the caps, but I want a factory look so Im trying to figure out wther to buy blue or green LEDs. Also, any suggestions on where to buy the LEDs?

the lenses were blue, but combined with the yellowish light of the bulb made it look green.

I've tried doing the same thing with 6 superbright LED's except with pure white and amber. I even sprayed the back of the instrument cluster with a chrome paint to help spread the light, but since the LED's only shine in a small cone, none of the light was able to reach the guages. It'll be even worse with green LED's since its a darker color.

So what would work best? Just get some regular bulbs and paint them (blue or green?) or replace the "caps" or....?

I took out the bulbs that and blue/green caps and put in some red bulbs to match my interior. They aren't real bright, but they work good enough for me.
I'll try to get the site with leds that I almost got.

When I had my old guage cluster in I got tired of the dim green. The blue filters block more and more light the older they get. I chose to just remove the filters and have white light on my guages. For a color I prefer red, however. Seems to be easier to read and not so wearing on the eyeballs on long drives.

Now, when I re-did the lights in my saturn, I used the light "gels" that they used for stage lighting-available at any music store. A tip for everyone. I may do that, or I may just paint the bulbs blue. Depneds on how lazy I get this weekend. Is there a trick to pulling the old bulbs from the twist-in sockets they are mounted in? I dont want to break one off trying to get it out.

They are really easy to take out of the socket, just turn them about a 1/4 turn to the left I think and they should come right out.
You can buy these replacement bulbs from walmart or autozone or someplace like that in a blue, red, orange, and a few other colors.

I have seen replacement bulbs in several colors at Advanced Auto Parts stores. The bulb sockets twist out of the instrument panel but the bulbs pull straight out of the sockets.
