Does anyone know if there is a difference between the WW and a early 99 turbo wheel? I have been thinking about upgrading the turbo, but though I read somewhere that the early 99 and earlier pretty much already have a wicked wheel.

That motivates me to get off my a$$ and install mine. I've had it for two weeks now, but I've been working 70-75hrs a week. It seems all I do is work, eat, ****, and sleep. I'm going to make the time Wednesday and install it.
I just can't decide if I'm going to remove the turbo or do it on the truck. My pedestal has no leaks, and I don't want to open that door.
I just decided. It stays on.
Thanks to Kwik and Stu for all the good info. It sure is nice not going into a project blind.

Have to go make some $$ now, my truck is spoiled rotten!

Austin

That is the way I understand it. The early 99's have the same copressor wheel that is like the Wicked Wheel.

That's what I was waiting for!!! Mine is getting installed right now!

I will report on the difference. I buddy of mine is installing it so I wont have any install help guys. I simply do not have time and he is a diesel tech at the local dealer, so it makes sense. He is going to pull the turbo and install new pedestal rings as well, in case you were wondering.

it's not to bad, although since I am a contractor he is welcome to any tool in my arsenal whenever he wants so it's a pretty fair trade!!!

Well I just installed the wheel on my turbo and did not remove the turbo. I didn't haft to remove every thing they said to remove but I did need a guy under the truck to pull the downpipe down to get the screwdriver in the turbo to wedge it. The install took 2hr not as bad to do as you would think. The turbo has less whistle now and after comparing them when i had them off stock had alot more vanes to it. Must be why there is 4psi boost loss but all surge and stall are gone now it sounds stock with alot more whistle

That's exactly what I did when I changed mine out. It's an easy job like you say.

i was wondering if you could just pull that downpipe and wedge that exhaust side wheel to get the compressor wheel off... from what i understand you don't have to tighten up the new wheel very tight because it tightens as it spins... one question.. how hard was it to pull the downpipe then put it back on...?

The guy could pull the pipe down with one hand and the pipe clamped right back on with no problem. The wheel I just tightened snug. You don't haft to take the y pipe out just undo the clamp on the turbo the hoses will let it flex to take the turbo apart.

i can run over 24 psi of boost with no problem, i have heard that am gonna loose 4 psi if i go with the wicked wheel, i'll GLADLY trade that for the ability to use the 20 - 22 psi i'll have left while towing and NOT have any flutter or stall... seems like a no brainer to me... i'm glad you have had such good results PSDL since i have the same setup as you have...! have you had a chance to tow anything with your new wheel yet..?

No pics. But it's really easy. The hardest part is getting at the bottom bolts of the intake housing. You need a 1/4" drive socket set or a 3/8 breaker bar to fit. The ratchet head of a 3/8 drive is too big to fit. Other than that it's a breeze. Yes you need to disconnect the down pipe, but it just pushes down and hangs there on the exhaust hangers. If you need more room just take the two bolts out that join the downpipe to the rest of the exhaust and it will lay out of your way.
