why

why would it appear that the 6.0 will be so short lived? Is it that bad of a performer, or will ford offer both as options with the 6.4 being the big dog and the 6.0 for someone who just wants a diesel?

I believe the main reason for the change is tougher emissions laws starting for 2007. The other in my opinion is probably the ongoing battle between auto makers for the most power etc.

Question

Well I guess the 6.4 is really going to happen since we have an area for it already. OK with that said what are the details? I herd it would be built by FORD true?
I herd it's a version of the 6.0 and will be built by International???
Can anyone provide some real facts or is it just too early yet???
Come on you guys that work at FORD let us know we are not the regular public we are FTE members.

the reason why the 6.0 is short lived-

in 2003, the emissions standards were getting more strict. the current 7.3L would not pass the 2003.5 emissions. so, ford decided to push this engine out prematurely, instead of paying hefty fines to keep the 7.3 in production. the 6.0 wasnt fully tested and managed yet, and they figured out the flaws in the system as the trucks rolled into the shops with problems. i heard that us 2003-2004 owners were just "guinea pigs", and they fixed them and learned about the problems, coined the term "reflash". by 2005-2006, they basically had all the kinks worked out. i heard on the 6.0 forum, that the 6.4 is the same engine block, same parts (basically) but just a slightly larger bore, and twin sequential turbochargers. ( <- = ) and the major thing is that the 6.4 has had adequate time to be developed properly and tested fully. plus, the engine is managed by a ford engine managment program rather than the international management programs on the current 6.0's.

all of this i just provided is strictly just things i have heard on here and passed on.

So is this new engine really going to have twin turbo's? i might have to have dad take a look at one of these if this is true. This sounds like it might be one heck of an engine.

it is the the same enigne. just like what ford did to the 6.9 they bored it out .ford is going to bore the 6.0 out to 6.4 . in 2007 emissions get very tough like nothing ever seen before it effects all diesels. the 6.4 will have 4 egr's.

Its amazing how when guys hear that it will be a twin turbo they get all out of sorts.I think Ford has come up with a good sales plug with that one.I can only think of twice the money to fix.

The 6.0l was always going to have the short life it lived.
Even before the realisation of the 6.0l issues.

Products are usually planned 5 years in advance of them being saleable. The 6.4 was most likely in its early design and review stages before the first 6.0l rolled of the production line.

4 egrs? Isn't that one factor which kind of killed the 6?

I wonder if they can be disconnected?
Is this TT going to be more efficient?
I wonder how tunable?

The 4.5 powerstroke in the LCF has a Twin turbo set up (sequential), large, and small. the large one feeds the intake to the small, and then to the intercooler.
