There may soon come a day, when Ford owners recall and wish back for the good ol days of the 05/06 6.0. Kinda like the current tide for the 7.3.

My sources tell me that they're tired of the Navistar quality issues, so Ford will be designing and building it themselves. At this point, that's all I know.

Oh NO!!! That is bad. I have seen a lot of real failures when Ford goes into this mode.

I spoke to the Navistar plant manager when Peggy and I toured the engine plant in August. He was bragging about gearing up for 6.4L production and the expense of the engine (citing the 4 EGRs as an example). Its essentially the same engine block produced on the same line by the same company. This is still Navistar's project.

I was under the impression that the issues with the "early" 6.0's were issues with Ford's software programs (however since worked out), not the Navstar engine. This holding true for ALL newer high tech engines to meet the latest EPA regs throughout the diesel auto industry as well. Am I mistaken? Also, I thought the 6.4 was just going to be a modified 6.0. Now I am hearing that the 6.4 will be manufactured by Ford and not Navstar???

I'll defer to Ken's sources over mine. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if I was told that just to see how long it got out into the public, and who's saying what. You'd think I'd learn from the number of times Ford has burned me on the "this-is-what we'll-do-NEXT-week-for-rebates" info.......

So .4 in the 6.4 mean 4 egr's lol welcome to hell ...they can't get the one they have to work well and that goes for the twin turbo's too.

why would they put four egr valves on this new motor design?
that is just a plain waste of money and more problems.

I would assume the 6.4L's turbo's are going to be similar to the current EVGT that is on the 6.0. But, that is just a guess, i dont know.

i see no point in having two VGT's when the purpose is to get away from the VGT design and have a small turbo for low boost/fast response, and a big turbo that has no lag, due to the small turbo "pre-spooling" it.

Well its looking like the 6.4 is going where no diesel has gone before. This should get interesting.

the obvious and maybe stupid question is why arent the other two brand "x"s doing the same; ie: cubic inch changes and such if its a "smog" issue?
