Try to figure this one out.

Here is the problem. I have a 351m taken to a 400m. Stock 2bbl motorcraft. I will try to describe this the best I can. I go out and start the truck, let it warm up for a minute or so and off I go. Sometimes when I come to a stop, then start again, the engine will stop and start again. Its like a switch is flipped off and on. There is kind of a poping noise rather than a backfire. If I continue to keep my foot on the gas, sometimes it will do this multiple times. Once I let my foot off the gas, it will idle, then off I go and everything is fine. It does not do this all the time only once in awhile and only when stopped and starting again. Seems like it will do it once then I dont have anymore problems until I drive it one or a couple of times then it does it again. I had my truck in getting a carb rebuild. The mechanic took it out for a drive and it did this to him. I was charged alot of $$ for some part that goes in the distributor. Problem is, it was not fixed.

ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT!!

Pay attention to how cold and if that seems to have an effect on it. My does about the something just when I don't let it warm up enough.

It might be timing.

The timing must be set with the vacuum line off and plugged. The stock distributor and ignition system are set up to use manifold vacuum, so if the timing was set with the line connected, it is actually at about 12* retarded. Check that, and if the timing is ok, you may need a larger accelerator pump shot. Behind the throttle linkage, there is an arm with four holes in it, with the rod for the accelerator pump in one of the holes. If the rod is in one of the lower two holes, try moving it up to the second from the top. If it helps the problem, but doesn't make it go away, try the top hole. Also, make sure the rod isn't bent out of shape too bad.
