i have a 2000 f350 7.3 powerstroke 6 speed do heavy towing with 34 ft camper my clutch didnt want to disengage transmission ,finially got it out of gear and pressed clutch again it didnt want to go all the way down so i pressed real hard and the master cylinder popped the petal went all the way to the floor ,fluid is now leaking behind the clutch petal, the master cylinder broke i dont know if something inside the transmission caused this problem or if the problem is only with the clutch cylinder only , im getting ready to replace the cylinder to start with any suggestions ? what to do or where to buy clutch parts ? if i have to replace the clutch any suggestions on a reasonable priced clutch kit that will do well for heavy towing ,i have been looking around and see diffrent brands and some say they are better than original ford some say easier to push (my clutch takes quite a bit of pushing ) and some say the flywheel has to be replaced any ideas would be greatly appreciated ...thanks
Welcome to It sounds like a problem with the clutch fork or the T/O bearing. The forks are known to bend. Something jammed and the extra pressure popped the M/C. If you go with something like the South Bend they suggest a new flywheel. Your truck has the solid flywheel in it. You could use a replacement Ford unit or a reman. It would depend on the mods you have or plan to have. If you have added power go with a South Bend or a Luk. I just remembered hearing about the springs in the disc lodging between it and the pressure plate. Either way you'll need to pull it.

Mech's assessment is pretty much right on. Ford sells a pre-bled hydraulic clutch assembly that takes literally all of 10 minutes to replace. I just did mine last week. I'll get the part numbers from home and post them later. That's the easy part. I would recommend going with the Luk clutch set. That's what I installed and it makes a world of difference. Clutch is easier to push in, much smoother, and holds a lot better. I used to be able to overpower the stock clutch without any problem, now the truck actually goes if I hit the throttle. The LuK system can be had for about 650 and the hydraulic assembly can be had for about 110 including the new master cylinder push rod.
