Oil Pressure Drop
Well, I done it. I bought that ole '90 F150 I-6 5-spd. with 69k original miles. Have driven it around town for a week and noticed that the op gauge showed on the low side of 'normal'. Plenty of oil when I checked and I never had any temp rise or engine balkiness. Tonight, I drove to the next town over at 65 -- about 20 miles -- and watched the op gauge move slowly down to nothing then jump back up to where I'd seen it before then drop slowly down and repeat. Stopped and checked the oil and it was OK. Drove back home and observed the same phenomena. Checked oil again and it was ok.
What do I check first? I figure the PVC valve, the sending unit, and the oil pump in that order (though I don't think the pump would be the problem or the engine would have heated and cut out, wouldn't it?).
Would appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through this before.

Just to add to quicklook, the oil pressure does not mean you are low on oil. It means the engine isn't pumping it properly. Low oil could cause this too when it gets low enough to pump air instead of oil.
Clean up the sending unit connection and you should be good to go. Just remember if it drops to Zero to shut her off until you can investigate. If the pump actually went, I don't think you'd make it 5 miles much less 20...

ps - my wifes 'fancy' car has a dispaly to tell her things. She'll come home and say "the car says 'change oil soon'. I checked the oil (level) and its fine..." I have to keep telling her that when it says 'check oil level' is when you check the oil level... even after 4 years of this. LOL
