My company has ordered an new XL without the fleet options (Pwr windows/doorlocks). I have been in touch with Ford and don't think changing it will be possible (they negociated prices and started the build, blah, blah, blah.)
Has anyone installed power windows and door locks on an XL SD?
I've recieved an aftermarket quote of $1300 for power windows, door locks and keyless entry, no alarm. This seems high to me.
Could I remove the parts from a wrecked SD and do it myself? The biggest problem appears to be the door panels.
I'm not sure how reliable an aftermarket system would be. Any suggestions?
I'd just pick up new doors at a bone yard before I tried converting non-power to power. The labor would be a big cost savings. Easy if you do it that way.
I have installed both on my xl. Bought both kits on ebay for about $125 total. There are differant types of window kits, I bought the cheap one that replaces your window crank with a cable driven gear. I have had one of the plastic gears already strip out. There is no automatic stop on the motor, and if you keep the button depressed it will keep trying to spin the crank and strip the gear. I just used the stock door panels and covered the crank hole with a plug. The install was fairly easy.
I'll have to look into that. Ford wants 1700 dollars for a dealer install and I really hope I can get this done from the factory. I too am worried about reliability and maintanence of non-factory parts.
i have had power windows, locks, and cruise control added to my 04 xl, everything went perfect was fairly priced and works great, the cruise and lock kits were ordered by my local stereo install store installed were about $650.00, the windows i ordered from jegs they went right in without any drilling the same person did the install that worked for the shop but on the side went easy cost 300.00 for kit 50.00 for switches and 75.00 for install, everything seems to work just great.
i have a regular cab so i only have 2 on my side, yes it is custom just for super duty, the company is called electric-life. The switch kit i chose is kinda large for the area of the stock switches, i would choose one of the other euro looking switch kits if i was to do it again
The armrest of the XL door panel (driver's side) doesn't have enough room for all of the switches needed with a crew cab. So, if it's a CC, then you might want to look into a new panel to get that "factory" look.
When I bought my XL, part of the deal was to have power windows & locks installed. Dealership made the arrangements with a local stereo installer who did a pretty good job fabricating a switch-box that blends into the door panel on the driver's side. Definitely looks "aftermarket", but it works & doesn't look too bad when behind the wheel.
The nice thing is that the lock/window control module that was installed can be upgraded to provide remote entry &/or remote start. I think it cost around $750 installed. Can get you the brand after I get off work in a few hours.
