Hey Bulldog - nice post with a good picture. I am not sure about this but I am sure some one here like MrShorty can help with this. It is obviously vacuum actuated. Right on top of the 4.0 V6 SOHC manifold - come on guys - what is this thing?
it varies the incoming air into the engine. depending on vacuum or no vacuum, the valve opens or closes and chages intake from short runners to long runners and vice versa. havent seen that part online might be dealer item only
So this feature must be unique to the SOHC motor then? Does it really make a difference? What is better - short runners at closed throttle and long a WOT? Obviously, WOT there is no vacuum and so this valve would not be actuated.

Short runners are better at WOT; longer runners are better at lower rpms.
