Quiet at Idle?

Quiet at Idle?
Need help quick! I was sitting at a traffic light this afternoon and my 6.0 was purring like a kitten and all of a sudden the engine got really quiet. Then about two seconds it got loud or I guess back to normal. It did this several times and I'm wondering is this normal or is something getting ready to fail. Has anyone else had this happen with a 2004 6.0?

Thats a bad exhaust backpressure sensor. The quiet idle is because the EGR is being fooled into thinking it needs to be open when it doesn't.
Just take the truck in for the recall and they'll take care if it. Very common problem, nothing to worry about.

It's called EGR 'cycling'.. My 05 has been cycing for about the last couple months or so.. Not too often, and mostly occurs on warm up, or maybe a few miles or so down the road when warmed completely.. Then usually gone till the next drive/warmup cycle.. Once in a while after an extended highway run, and maybe cycle at the first stop light..
