I am in the proccess of changing over my worn out 2000 7.3/six speed manual to 2005 running gear 6.0/torqueshift and have run down everything I need except its from a 2WD and my truck is a manual shift 4wd.. One person on Ebay told me the 2wd torqueshifts can be made to fit a 4wd application by just removing the tailhousing and without changing the tailshaft. Does anyone know if thats true? In other words is there no difference between the two applications?
While I am asking does anyone know if the six speed stick 2000 or 2003 transfer cases(I have both) are the same as the ones behind the torqueshifts as far as female spline count and depth?Will one bolt up to a Torqueshift?

Yes, the transfer case will bolt to the transmission without modification once the 2wd tailshaft housing and driveshaft yoke are removed.
Now I honestly don't feel right giving a reply to this without giving a caution....as far as electronics are concerned, you are working yourself into a nightmare. Assuming that you get the PCM and FICM properly controlling the engine and transmission (that in itself shouldn't be too hard, but there are a great number of wiring harnesses that you will need) you will have a very hard time with the instrument panel, ABS module, ect. With the current design, there are multiple bus networks that operate modules seperatley, and are tied together on CAN and SCP. As far as I know, 2002 and below all modules were tied to a common universal multiplex network utilizing only SCP. I don't have the slightest clue as to how one would go about networking dissimilar communications busses like that. The only way I see possible would be to replace ALL the network modules (airbag module, instrument panel, ABS module) ect with 2003-up components.
I'm nowhere close to familiar with the 1999-2003.5 networking, so it may be far easier than I am thinking it is, but I say that just as a word of caution.
Here's a list of parts from someone I know that did this on a 450 tow truck. He owns a repair shop so the labor is not included.
Front Diff loaded with 4.88's calipers, brake pads and rotors complete 3000.00
Transfer case 870.00
Front drive shaft 285.00
Rear drive shaft 585.00
Transfer case shifter 165.00
Transfer case shift rods, shift boot, gaskets transfercase sensor for 4x4 light 75.00
Trans output shaft if needed 370.00 transfercase adapter 165.00.
Believe me guys I know what Im getting in to. I have done similar swaps with GM stuff and they have similar problems with electronics,ABS,AIR BAG Body Contol Modules,PASs Lock,not to mention ECM and transmission computers with all of it needing to programmed to a specific VIN. ,But im going to get every bit of wiring from the 2005 and its a regular cab like mine.Im also getting the steering colmn,cluster abs computer,all computers,fuse boxes,and everything that the wiring plugs into.I have studied some of the factory harness books also.The truck Im using as a parts truck is a strippy so there isnt as much electronics as a loaded truck.But I need to know if the 2wd tranny can be used as a 4wd tranny and if the transfercases are different from six speed to torqueshift.Someon who works at FORD might know by when they replace a torqueshift and whether the order there are two different tranny parts between the twoThanx Nick
Your all are probably right about it being better to buy a new truck but where's the fun in that? I am actually only paying a couple thousand more for everything(engine/trans/70lbs of wiring/and all the rest) then I would pay for just the Taxes (8.25 where I am) of a new truck and Ill still have a7.3 and 6 speed to sell. But it sounds like your friend went from 2wd to 4wd and bought all the needed parts.I already have 4wd but am trying to figure out if I can use a 2wd torqueshift to accept a transfercase without having to change the output shaft and just bolt up an adapter. One person on Ebay(EBAY ITEM#8000821034) has a tranny that is said to fit both 2wd and 4wd and says the Ford part number is 3c3z 7000-gkrm.If this is true I assume I could use a 2wd tranny pull off the tailshaft and bolt up an adapter but I have never have seen this before, Even the Allison which Ive converted a couple of times has a short 2wd output shaft and is identical in length and spline count to a 4wd but has just a little different machining between the two to make them not interchangable.
I will. Just to tell you the last thing I did that is somewhat similar was with my daily driverwhich is a 2500HD that started out as a 01 2wd with an 8.1 and Allison. I bought it cheaply because it had 110k on it and it was from Texas(where all the deals seem to be)It was in good shape with no body damage just high miles.Anyways I bought a non repairable 03 Duramax 4wd back in 04 that had only 5000 on it but was completley rolled over and not regesterable due to the non repairable and damage.I started by taking the body off of both trucks and just swapped over everything to the 01 but first I had to convert the 2wd frame to the IFS 4wd with a lift put on at the same time and I had to buy some damaged parts like the intercooler and radiator that were damaged on the 03. But I had alot of stuff to sell like the 8.1/alllison combo ($4000)airbags etc. I paid $5400 for the 03 and 11,000 for the 01 and when I was done(about a week) and done selling everything I was in it about $13000 .In the glovebox of the 03 was the dealer sticker with MSRP set at $43000.00
This was an easy project other then the 4wd conversion (which wasnt that bad because I have done same thing once before) because I had the complete 03 doner truck and there was no body work to do just swapping.I also have complete tech support,parts deals etc through my friends and have I $3000 tech 2 tool but none of this knowldge,tools or connections helps me with this project though.(wrong forum!!!)
