Fresh Strawberries

Are any of you guys getting fresh local strawberries yet? My wife picked some this afternoon and we had some after supper. I think they were the sweetest that I have eaten in years. She said that tomorrow night we will have strawberry short cake with whip cream.

Old Ford Trucks and goood eating, Life is goood in NC.

I am eating some from my garden as I type, heh heh. They are better than last year's crop.

Fresh Strawberries

My Mother and my little girl planted strawberry plants in our back yard last year. The doggone rabbits wiped out the plants. My Father has a slammin' garden next to our shop. We should have some any day now. Looking foward to them. Jake.

Used to go and pick fresh wild strawberries with my grandmother around these parts, but the wild berry fields, like my grandmother, have long gone.. Lots of fruit stands around however...!

66ranger, I hear you on the long gone fields. There is a city to the southeast of Houston called Pasadena. Back at the turn of the 20th century and a few decades later, it proudly proclaimed itself to be the strawberry capital of the world. Later, the Port of Houston was formed and industries were built along the port and the strawberry fields have long since vanished. I have seen pictures from old newspaper articles from that era depicting the fields with the strawberry plants and there are great to see. What we do to out environment in order to grow economically. It's a shame.

Fresh Strawberries

My wife brought home a couple of flats of stawberrys this week. Don't know where they were grown but they are wonderful! Most of them are as big around as a 50 cent piece. Is there really anything else that tastes as good? I don't think so. I wonder if strawberrys are what Yahweh created for himself to eat when hungry? They really are that good. DF
