Ultramagdan, did you know that you can finance an aircraft for 15 years? And Many FBO's have a lease back program. A freind of mine does this with a brand new 172. He gets part of the rental money from the FBO, and he is able to cover the loan payments with that. The FBO pays for all maintenance and insurance. When he flies he only has to pay for fuel. I don't know how much you pay for for a 172 rental, but here in So Cal it's about $105 per hour. I think it makes sense to do the lease back thing. I'm considering it.
No, I hadn't considered that angle. At $105 an hour that is high compared to what I'm paying now, $50 an hour which is a very good deal for an IFR equipped 172. Most planes of that type rent for around $80 here in Kansas.
$105 is a wet price (includes fuel) and thats for an older VFR 172 and my instructor gets $40, but he deserves it. I'm going broke but I'm getting my PPL. :7
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Dec-02 AT 06:13 PM (EST)]Not to rub it in, but the $50 an hour is the wet price here. And my instructor is only $35 an hour. I am doing the same thing you are. I hope to have my PPL in a couple of months.
I understand completly. Going broke, but loving every minute of flight time I can get. It really is one of the most rewarding things that one can accomplish.
Apologies to Joseph for changing the direction of his post. I'll try to straighten up and fly straight
