chk eng light on my 97 5.4 4x4 f 150 came on went to the zone scaned for code it said bank 1 sensor 2 so i replaced the down strem o2 sensor(drivers side) and cleared the code the next day the light came back on showing the same thing bank 1 sensor 2 does this mean i need to replace the downstream sensor on the other side(passenger) ? but my gas milage did increase sleightly but is still imho lame around 16 hwy but it was around 11 befor i changed the sensor.
yes..sensor 2 is the "downstream" one, there is a metal cover over the cat so you need special wrench to get to it. unless an offset 7/8" boxed end will go over the plastic connector, at least this is of my '01 4.2 which i'm sure has the same type metal cover. 16 isn't too bad for a 5.4 4x4. my rule of thumb is about 50% driving habits (lead foot...?) and 50% mechanical, on the average that is. by the way keep in mind that some other out of range condition "upstream" can trigger a code somewhere else, and its not always that particular part/sensor that may show up on the reader/scanner. welcome to the forum!
