O2 sensor problems

Hello everyone, I have a 1996 F-150 Eddie Bauer truck with a 4.9 liter straight six in it and I am having a small problem with it. Earlier this week my check engine light came on and indicated that an O2 sensor was bad. It was the Bank 1 sensor 1 that was bad. I replaced that and then cleared that code and another one came up. This one was PO155 and it is Bank 2 Sensor 1 heater circuit manfunction. So I replaced it to, except that the check engine light came back on after I cleared it. I checked the wires by the O2 sensors and they seems to be fine. My question is what is wrong with it? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi and Welcome to Ford-Trucks!
During testing the HO2S Heaters are checked for opens/shorts and excessive current draw.
The test fails when current draw exceeds a calibrated limit and/or an open or short is
detected.

Possible Causes:
Short to VPWR in harness or HO2S
Water in harness connector
Open VPWR circuit
Open GND circuit
Low battery voltage
Corrosion or poor mating terminals and wiring
Damaged HO2S heater
Damaged PCM

Honestly I would swap bank 1 & 2. If the probelm moves to bank 1 then its the O2 sensor. If it stays in bank 2 check the wiring, connectors, power, and ground. Lastly replace the PCM. I *think* we've had a few 96's with this same problem that turned out to be PCM's sadly.

I hpe this helped,
Tim

How do I tell if it is the PCM? I would like to follow a diagnostic chart to solve this problem but I do not have one.

Thank You

Took it in to the dealer and it DID turn out to be the computer. I guess the only thing that went wrong was the computer stopped sending the signal to heat up.

They want $349 for a rebuilt one.

My dad can get one in from his store for around $100. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Thanks for your help, sir.
