I've had my 2004 for almost 2 years now, and it's time to do something about the "Captain's Chairs." They are just plain uncomfortable! Without spending $800 to $2000 for new ones or something altogether different, has anyone come up with a way to make them more comfortable? Pads? Pillows? etc?
Wow thats new to me. I think the capitains cahirs are VERY comfotable. the longest trip I've been of is about 2 1/2 hours with this truck and the seats were amazing. I almost fell asleep a couple times lol. Then again everyone has diffrent body types/sizes so I can see how the seats can be a bit uncomfortable for some.
That exactly do you not like about the seat? Im thinking you could maybe stuff more pading in certain areas? Or possibly re trim them with a diffrent material?
OK, I'll admit it, I'm wider than many folks, and the way that the seats stick up more towards the sides than in the middle is not comfortable. And there's no adjustment. Also, my wife, who is a little shorter, insists on having a cement block on the passenger side for a foot rest, since the seat sits too high for her to be comfortable, and again, there's no adjustment for that! I also have a 99, and those seats are much better! I'd swap the seats, but the 04 has the seat belts as part of the seatback, so that won't work. And those seatbelts in the seats also make it hard to retro too many other's seats into place....
Is your truck a lariat?
My truck (lariat) has like 10 diffrent adjustments you can do to the seat. Lumbar support, raise the seat, lower it, tilt seat... it also applies to the passanger side also. My girlfriend likes to ride lower on longer rides so she doesn't get the sun on her face so she just hits the button and down goes the seat.
Maybe find a pair of used seats that you like on ebay?
XLT, not a Lariat. Sounds like I should have paid the extra $$ for the electric adjustable seats. Only adjustments are fwd/back, back tilt, and lumbar. No raising, no lowering, no tilting of the bottom part.... Have been watching ebay, but hate to spring for that kind of cash! I was hoping someone out there would come back with a cure, such as a block of wood in the right place, or maybe a cheap source for adjustable seat bases.....
The seats on my Lariat have the up-teen different adjustments. I love how comf they are, but I would guess you can do better if you wanted to shell out the cash. My GF is all of 5'0" and she does not seem to have a problem, she takes naps on long trips.
You might do a search for one of the upfitters in northern Indiana that might have some factory takeouts of the power seats. I've seen ad's in some of the "Auto Swappers" that you find in gas stations and such.
I will agree, the '99 XLT seats are better than my '03 XLT seats.

I know exactly what you mean. My 95 F250 XLT had the same problem. The edge of the seat would just cut into the back of my leg. Fortunatly when I traded it in on my 05 I went with the 40-20-40 bench seat in front and love it. Much more room to "spread". The only issue I've found is my left leg hangs over the edge a bit and rubs the upper pocket on the door. A bit of foam pipe insulation fixed that.
I sent you a PM about this. I really have no solution as I personally wish I would have gotten the captins chairs instead of the 40/20/40 split bench. I like the bench but would rather have the large center counsole since I have a CC. I don't think I've hauled more than 5 people around more than a couple of times.
I've been happy with my '05 1 Ton XLT with cloth captain's chairs with one exception. The ridiculously short armrests. I'm 6'2" 250 pounds and the arm rests seem to have been designed for much shorter people.
