I am thinking of buying chrome tow hooks for the front of my 02 F-250. Is thier a trick to taking off the three bolts that hold the tow hook in place or do I need to hire a one year old to get his hands in there. Thanks.
Pull the 6 bolts that hold on the bumper, disconnect the fog light connections if you have them and unbolt the hooks. I have done it with the bumper on and never again, tooooo many bloody knuckles.
We do have hte show plated hooks here if you want them, we started selling the Ford ones but they are flash plated and tend to start rusting really fast, 6 to 10 months usually. Ours are Ford hooks that are stripped, triple plated with copper, nickle and then chrome. The hardness of our chrome is toughter too, as I use mine as a step to get in the engine, never leaves scratches etc. The price for our hooks is basically the same too! Call us if you have any questions etc.
I did mine with out taking off the bumper as did my buddy. These were both done on 05's though, not knowing if there is anything different on an 02 in the way.
I agree...taking the bumpoer off is a good way to get at them, and it is a very simple task. One question though....are the chrome hooks purely for look or do you plan to use them on a regular basis? I know the chrome would look pretty good, but the chroming process tends to weaken the steel, especially on something with a bend. If you don't plan on using them for any serious pulling, I wouldn't worry....just something to consider.
Yep 1999 and up are all the same with the exception that some of the later ones do not have the welded on nuts and require a shorter bolt without a shoulder on it.
