Am I the only one who has the problem of the gas pump constantly shutting off no matter what you do to keep it going? I was at a service station tonight and trying to get my little 6 bux of gas in,the damn nozzel kept kicking off. And its not the pump,Its any station im at it does this.
Anyone else have this problem or is my truck not likeing the taste of gas although she drinks all she can get?
Pull the nozzle out a little bit. The way the filler necks are made, the nozzle is angled funny in the tube, and it makes contact with the nozzle. It then builds up pressure and kicks the nozzle off. Pull it out a little bit instead of stuffing it all the way in.
One thing i remembered too, is I used to have an old grand prix that did the same thing, and it had the little flap in the filler end, so i took a screwdriver and banged it out so it was just the gas filler, and it worked fine.
It may be that the float is buggered up in the tank. Our '88 E150 clubwagon does this. The gauge reads ~1/8 tank lower than what you have. I filled it up to overflowing today, and it only registered 7/8 full. It's a quirk of the old fords. The ones that didn't do it were designed for leaded fuel..
Thought!
Check you're filler neck vent line. Make sure it's not pinched or clogged.
I cut down a transmission fluid funnel to use on my '73 F-250 I can fill up with no cutoffs now but i have to still hold the handle.
At least I dont get gas all over my shoes anymore.
There is a vent tube inside the filler ube, if somebody tried to siphon gas out, chances are it got knocked loose and now is partially blocking the fill tube. Also, check under the truck and make sure the fill tube isn't kinked or crushed.
