Neighbor with 01 PSD says that a local diesel performance shop told him to move his EGT sensor to post turbo, because after enough miles corrosion will cause the sensor to break off and go through the turbo, ruining it. Anyone ever heard of this happening for a fact? Any other comments? I hate to see him messing around if someone only imagined that there might be a problem somehow, some day. Heck, the west side of California might break off and slide into the ocean, but that real estate isn't selling cheap!!

Todays thermocouples are such high quality stainless steel that you'll proably never hear about it happening. I would'nt think twice about it and run far away from any shop that tells you otherwise.
I've read about some long version of the (I believe) Autometer transmission probe that would break off and they have since gone to a shorter version. But nothing on a EGT sensor. I think they're made of stainless that will go to something like 2000 degrees. The cyclinders melt before that thing does. Being of stainless, I too wouldn't expect it to corrode to the point of breaking. Maybe this shop saw a faulty install do something or a poorly manufactured probe. Maybe the probe was adjusted too long and rubbed on something, vibrating to the breaking point. There's too many of them installed pre-turbo not to have heard something.
Heard this old wives tale for years, always post that if anyone "personally" has ever had it happen to them to call me, never get the call. I do get the "well I had a buddy that had a buddy that had one kill his turbo story" , but never anything that could be verified.
We ONLY promote pre turbo at DPPI, in fact you might as well save you money and take the wife/G/friend out and spend that money on them vs psot turbo, you'll get more good out of it. I have installed two and loaded seen as much as 600+ degrees betweeen pre and post, not the 2-300 folks will tell you.

In industrial applications the thermocouple can be put inside of a well. It prevents the t/c from getting into the process, but it causes a slower response time. Even then though you only see it when used with a slurry or acid, or very harsh chemical applications. If you do have one break off on a pre-turbo application, you're in the same likelihood of winning the lotto.
