Well, I just had to stop over here with my first post to talk some smack. Had guy in a lightning following me yesterday. From my rear view mirror I saw him hitting the gas on and off trying to make it seem like the thing had some power or something. No tire smoking of course...

I was on my way home and I took a turn and guess, Mr. Lightning had to follow me....hmmmmm, took another turn and he's still there...well, we drive for a few miles and we turn on to a long 2 lane highway...I know the guy thinks this truck is fast so I hit it a little and pull in front of him a few car length's in front. Well, he pulls to the left and right beside me. We'll he punches it, the thing sounds like it's got a blower, starts to whin and takes off.....

I let him get in front of me 1 car length then hit my gas, (TH400, 3 speed staying in 3rd!!!) I pass him so fast like an old lady in a shopping cart.....I wonder why this truck looks and sounds so mean but has no power to speak of. I bet the guy thought that the truck is so fast because he's been racing 4 and 6 bangers. Man, that thing is slow....If that's the best these truck can do, guys, stay racing the 4 and 6 bangers, stay away from the real street car because you are doomed to go home depressed....

 

ROFL! I wont be, cause A you shouldnt even be racing on the streets , B Gas costs to much for that bs, and C it anit even a fair match up !

 

Wow, you beat a stock Lightning with your car. Go up against a modified one at the strip and then come back and brag. Like Slipnotic said, at least you're doing your part to conserve gas.

 

I drove my friends lightning and it has plenty of power. A 5.4 supercharged, has enough power to go atleast 140 mph, its only registered to that, but I could tell it went a little faster than that. They just need to come with a manial tranny.

 

WHAT YEAR LIGHTNING, and was your ol goat stock- My 68 428CJ Stang , not stock by any means has had a few goats over the years BUT I know that no matter how fast (and driver stupidity) your car or truck is there IS ALWAYS somebody FASTER. I guess your post was to ruffle a few feathers here in the FORD site- well done!I have never owned any thing but FORDS- but working at a rural FORD dealer since 77 I have driven about every muscle car built(I do custom exhaust, in house) and a 67 GTO is a tank!!

 

Was It a First Gen or a 2nd Gen? The 2nd gens were the Heritage body style.
Also there are alot of posers out there, look at all the mustangs with cobra emblems.
The 2nd gen L is good for about a 13.7 in the 1/4, sometimes better, stock. Not bad for a 4700+lb truck.
BTW. Try a 2nd Gen L from a dig, or around some curves, these trucks are aerodynamic bricks but can still manage 147+mph stock.
Now add a $90 pulley and a tune.....
There has always been faster cars and trucks out there, and there always will be, but now you have to wonder was it really a Lightning or just an F-150 with a few Lightning badges and a ford racing supercharger kit? It's like my cousin; he hates to race ol 5.0 Fox body mustangs because a 10 or 11 second one sounds just the same as a 15 sec one to him.

And yes these trucks hold their own against V8s, I've taken several of your car's Holden born descendants with my slow, stock, truck.

 

LMAO! I needed that laugh, too. I OWNED a 67 GTO with a 400 and Hurst his n hers automatic. It was a perfect condition, low miles car. My weekend vehicle now is a 03 Lightning. It's not stock, but even when it was, it would have smoked the GTO I had. I've raced anybody that's wanted to, and I've only gotten beat by a Whipple blown 04 Cobra. The guy has more money in his engine then I do in my whole truck. Anyhow, thanks for the good laugh, 67.

My Lightning ran 12.06@113.98. And unless the guy was interested in your car and wanted to hear what it sounded like or something, I doubt he would have wasted his time and tried to race you.

I had a girl with a lightning antoginize me into a light to light race. When the light turned I jumped and she didnt. So did I win? I figured if I launched in 4x4 Id beat her to 35mph no problem.

 

The purpose of this forum is to make intelligent comparisons of other makes against ford. They don't have to be in favor of Ford but they must be reasonable in any matter or direction.
