I have an 87 Bronco (Full Size) with the 5.8L and a C6 transmission. Found out why my starter wasn't engaging - wore the teeth off the flexplate pretty well. I want to know if all C6 transmissions have the same flexplate, or if I will need to take mine off to find one that matches up - same number of teeth, same diameter, etc. Naturally, if they are all the same, I can just go to my local Ford junkyard and pull one from a C6 and save myself a little time.
Thanks Motorhead - after I posted, I started checking Jegs and a few other web sites for pricing. I found quite a few, between $60-$300 (higher price for racing applications). For that, I will definitely get a new one. I guess at this point, I need to decide whether I want the hassle of taking the tranny and transfer case out myself, or if I should take it to my mechanic buddy that rebuilt the engine for me. I'll call him tomorrow to get a quote and decide based off that.
jegs and summit have better parts then the stuff sold at kragen or napa. ask your local parts house for a flexplate they will give you a puzzled look and tell you it will be a 5 day wait once you get it there is a made in "korea" sticker on it you put it on start the enigne and it is so inbalanced you have to pull it apart again. i have been there and done it. summit and jegs are made in ohio and cost a little more.
