Just bought a super clean, low mileage 00 EB Expedition. All is great but when I start it a warning chime (more of an electronic beep than the seat belt chime) goes off. 4 cycles of 5 beeps. Then, it goes off intermittently while driving. Sounds like the open door chime.
Any way to fix or just unplug the thing?
Thanks
AWESOME forum btw, glad I found it!
good luck.........I just fixed my key in ignition chime by following this directions that I found on this board:
"I started by removing the three screws that hold bottom half of the steering column cover. The cover basically falls off, revealing the black with pink stripe wire going up to the ignition lock tumbler. You can't miss it, it's the only one going to the base of the tumbler. Turn the key to the "on" position and push the retainer button on the bottom of the tumbler housing and remove the key tumbler. The button is located about a key lengths distance from the hilt of the key as it's inserted in the lock. It looks like a small ball bearing in a hole. Just get a small screwdriver and push on the ball bearing and pull on the lock tumbler at the same time. Out she comes. Ok now remove the top half of the steering column cover. Examining the black/ping wire you will see that it comes up to a small horseshoe plastic retainer that fits onto the bottom of the lock tumbler housing like a set of dentures. Simply slide it out of it's groove and wrap it up with a bit of electrical tape and stash it under the tumbler housing."
Very easy to do!! Now mine doesn't chime with the door open!!!!
If the beep is coming from behind your glovebox, ignore all of the above suggestions.
Check your airbag light during the bulb prove-out test at power-up. Bet it's burned out or is missing. Since you just bought this vehicle used, I'd bet on the missing option.
The beeping is coming from the airbag module and is a backup warning signal that is used when the module has detected a system fault but cannot turn on the airbag warning light.
Once the light is fixed, it will be on but the beeping will go away.
You might also have issues with a door open switch. Your description seemed to imply two separate warning tones.
Check your owner's manual for the location of the airbag warning lite. If you didn't get a manual, you can download a .pdf version from www.fleet.ford.com

Well as luck would have it it is NOT helped by the wd-40 suggestions and it's not behind the glovebox..it is directly below the steering column, a bit to the left of it...near the fuse box. The "chime" is more electronic than, say, the key in ignition chime and sounds exactly like the door open warning sound.
I think you might have hit it! Thanks. Nope..airbag light does not come on at all when switch is on as per the manual. I'm calling the dealer where I bought it to bring it in.
Thanks!
