headlights on reminder chime
Hello all,
2004 Ford E350 super duty 5.4
I installed a set of 8" 100w off road lights on my brush guard. Can someone suggest a way to have the warning chime activate if they are left on? Currently the truck has the warning chime for headlights. Any easy way to tap into that? Is it better to go aftermarket?
Thank you

The headlight warning chime is part of the same module that sounds when drivers door is open and keys in ignition. You could find that module in a scrap yard, snip a portion of its wiring harness connector and wire it into your van following the appropriate EVTM or "wiring diagrams" for your year E350
This would be the easiest way I know----could be someone else has another way.

The hardest part is finding a buzzer or alarm. Radio Shack used to sell them but they are gone.
Once you get a 12v device, all you have to do is hook it inbetween a ignition hot wire and the wire to the lights. I always use a diode inline with it too.
Here's a diagram. Instead of "headlights", yours will be hooked to your aux light wire. How it works; If your ignition is on, and your lights are on, there is 12 on both sides of the buzzer and it doesn't buzz. Turn the ignition off but leave the lights on, there is 12v still on one side, none on the other, so the buzzer finds a ground somewhere on the other side and will buzz till the lights are turned off. If the ignition is on, but the lights are off, the diode blocks the buzzer from alarming in that situation.

Hey thanks for that. I managed to find a buzzer on amazon. Ill have to test it first and see if its acceptable. I have some extra 10amp diodes from my solar setup. I suppose i could use one of those. If the buzzer is too dam loud (some of them are just over the top loud and annoying), i may just use the ignition for a trigger on a relay instead.
Thanks for all the help here!
