Metallurgy. Leafs are tempered after heating to retainer the arch and ability to spring back after load. If you play with fire , you will get burned. Nobody who drives on public roads and streets should do this " lo cost" method out of concern for the safty of others. Way too many other options that are safer and way smarter. .02

Howdy Chuck, I have almost a year left on the deployment, but I'm settled in and back on the board now. I have to listen to a generator the size of an F600 scream while I type, but you guys are worth it.
I came onth this thread late, but I do know a guy who lowered an older mustang fastback with the torch method, he used jack stands set 2" below the leaf springs, got them hot and let them settle down on the jack stands, then left them alone to cool. That's how he was able to keep both sides even. Like the rest of these guys, I thought it seemed really crude and unsafe.....but we were in high school and broke...
