Engine Compartment/Front end Noise!!

If it is, it's a Normal condition.. But if your concerned have it checked to make sure..
Try holding the Brake 'HARD' (with no one/cars ect.) in front of you.. Holding the brake 'tight' bring the RPM's and bosst pressure up and quickly 'chop' the throttle.. Higher the boost pressure, louder the bark.. If you get a whapa whapa 'rolling' scrapping sound that resisnates to a lower degree as the turbo spools down, that would be turbo bark.. It'll do it on a warmed engine, but seems to be more noticeable when cold...

Have it checked to be sure, but the problem is that these turbo's don't have a 'waste gate' to vent unneeded boost pressure/s when the throttle is 'quickly' released.. So the sound/pressure is moved back out the intake.. A design, not repair issue.. At least at this point, but doubt there will ever be a total 'fix' for this condition.. Weather yours is doing it to an extreme is hard to tell, thats why a visit may be helpful.. If it were to over/under boost you'd most likely have some other driveability issues and a CEL/DTC may also be set.. If the vanes were sticking, intermittently or partially, and/or a backpressure sensor ect. issue, there may be other conditions/concerns along with the bark..

I do understand the frustration though.. I thought I would/could escape the bang'n/clunk'n 5R trans with the 05 purchase as well, but has proved out 'at least' in my case, to not be the point.. But again, I think if your having what seems like, or excessive bark, it should go back and let the techs do a diag. boost/turbo ect.. The engine does has some changes for 05.. Think you'll like the last one

Deleted intake throttle – instead added air flow “directors” inside RH exhaust tube & intake manifold.
2 New air inlet elbow to replace the throttle
3 Replace Rexroth high pressure pump with Shepard pump.
4 Replace Injection Press Relief (IPR) screen with perforated plate style filter – allows finer filtration (150 vs. 200 micron).
5 Water inlet relocated on front cover to accommodate new steering gear
6 New fuel supply and return pipes to accommodate water inlet
position
7 Improved EGR valve, increased flow, required for emissions.
8 Intake Manifold, EGR Distribution
9 Turbo Upgrade for flutter improvement
My 05 was a replacement/trade off for a C/C from 03 S/C.. My 03 I could brake stand it till it about spun the tires and was 'really' hard to get it to bark.. And the turbo has been re engineered since 03 to better the issue of 'flutter'.. My neighbor has an 04 C/C and his will bark with very moderate throttle and a release, even warm.. Almost everytime.. The complaints aren't 'always' Model year specific/related as with my 03..
I'm probably not the one to ask, maybe PSD can help out here or one of the Ford techs, but I believe there is a TSB/SSM for a flash to help with the troublesome barkers.. Don't know if it applies to your truck/build.. So, a turbo, unless yours proves out to be an issue may not help your situation.. Run it in and let'm have a chance at some improvement, but I don't think you'll escape to a completely quite turbo/flutter.. Some seem to do it more than others but ALL seem to do it to varying degrees..

BTW- no truck I have ever seen will make the noise when the converter is locked- hence why a 6-speed truck will not do it unless you release the clutch upon chopping the throttle- it caused by a combination of a decrease in load AND engine rpm at the same time, and the stock VGT turbo control loop PID cannot react fast enough.
